But, I recently learned a great way to deal with the stress beyond exercising and relaxation–to really put the problems into perspective.
Ask for advice on your work problems from someone who is 11 years old or younger. It’s amazing!
Here is my last interaction with an 11 year old I know about my work issues.
Me: “Benny, I’ve got to tell you man, I’m really stressed about all of the follow up work for my upcoming speeches. What do you think I should do?”
Benny: “Don’t do it! Let’s play Wii instead.”
Me: “But I have to do some of it…”
Benny: “Fine, then do just what you have to do.”
I liked that. He was right. I didn’t have to all of it to get a strong result, so I just committed to doing what I absolutely must. I felt great.
A kid’s perspective was all I needed.
Have you ever tried this in your life? If so, please share.
