“Everyone dies but not everybody lives.”
People are scared—all the time. We are ruled by our fear and are slaves to our tiny comfort-zones. We are in our comfort-zone when we feel safe. Anytime we step out of our comfort-zone, we get nervous. I was with a friend the other day and this was what happened:
Brian: “Wow, that girl over there seems amazing. I would be so happy to meet a girl like that sometime.”
Marc: “We are at a bar–what’s holding you back?”
Brian: “Are you serious, I can’t just go talk to her…”
Marc: “Why not?”
Brian: “I just can’t.”
Everyone has participated in one of these conversations at one point or another, but what is really holding us back from going after what we really want? We are afraid to step outside of our comfort-zone. We are afraid to go against convention. It’s as if there is some unwritten rulebook that we all play by. Here are a few examples:
1. You can’t just go up and approach the person of your dreams in the street.
2. A salesperson can’t call on the CEO of a major Fortune 100 Company.
3. A high school student can’t start a business.
The only thing that holds us back from really stretching the limits is our small comfort-zone, so get the hell out of it. Get in the habit of living life in your UnComfort-Zone! This is how you do it:
Anytime you don’t want to do something or are afraid to chase after something you want because it makes you too nervous, step on the gas pedal—go for it!
By living in our UnComfort-Zone, we create so much more richness in our lives. So, what are you waiting for?
