When is the last time you had that sweaty palms, knees shaking, heart pounding feeling?
Being nervous is something that we usually go out of our way to avoid, but why? Years ago, when I first decided to become a college speaker, I was terrified and beyond nervous. Yesterday, when I went snowboarding and hit the first big jump of the season, I had that pit in my stomach.
The experiences that bring us the greatest personal reward are likely to make us nervous. This is not only natural, but excellent! This means that we are stepping outside of our comfort zone.
Try this exercise, think of one thing that you would really like to do in 2011 that makes you nervous. Imagine yourself either doing this activity or achieving this goal. Just taste how good it would feels.
Now is time to start planning to do it. The reason I teach board breaking workshops as a keynote conference speaker all over the country is because it makes my audience nervous. This is what leads to all the greatest personal growth.
So join me this year by making yourself nervous (not stressed out!) as often as possible. Feel that rush in the new year!
